These terms cover using NorthHaul, whether you're posting jobs or bidding on them. By creating an account you're agreeing to them. NorthHaul is currently in pre-launch testing โ some of what's described below (fees, formal dispute processes) isn't switched on yet, and that's called out clearly where it applies. See also our Privacy Policy for how we handle your data.
NorthHaul is a marketplace that connects people who need something moved ("customers") with independent van drivers ("drivers") across North Scotland. We're not a removals or courier company ourselves, and we're not a party to the job itself โ when a customer accepts a driver's bid (or a driver books a job instantly), that forms a direct agreement between the customer and the driver. We provide the platform that makes the match, not the moving service.
You need to be at least 18 to create an account. The information you give us when you sign up needs to be accurate โ for drivers especially, since customers rely on it to decide who to book. You're responsible for keeping your account secure and for anything that happens under it.
When you post a job, describe it accurately โ pickup/dropoff, what's being moved, timing and budget โ so drivers can bid or book with confidence. Drivers either place their own quote or accept your stated budget outright with Book Instantly; accepting a bid books that driver for the job. Payment for the job itself is arranged directly between you and the driver โ NorthHaul doesn't currently process or hold that payment.
Once NorthHaul is fully live, a 6% platform fee applies per job, with your first job always commission-free. Right now, while we're still in testing, nothing is charged on any job.
Cancelling: you can cancel a job at any time, whether it's still open or already booked with a driver, from Your Jobs on your dashboard โ you'll be asked for a short reason. It's free (nothing is charged yet) and can't be undone. If you cancel a booked job, message your driver directly too if you have time, as a courtesy.
You register as an independent, self-employed operator โ not an employee or worker of NorthHaul. You choose which jobs to bid on or book, set your own quotes, use your own vehicle, and arrange your own tax and National Insurance. NorthHaul doesn't control how you carry out a job.
You need a full UK driving licence and hire & reward insurance for your vehicle, and we ask for these (plus a vehicle registration and insurer name) before showing a Verified badge on your profile. We run an automated check on uploaded documents to flag obvious mismatches, but this is a first pass, not a guarantee โ final verification is done by us manually. If you declare a certification you hold, you need to upload genuine proof of it; certifications aren't independently verified beyond that automated check, and customers who've booked you can view that proof.
Once NorthHaul is fully live, driving for us costs 10% commission per completed job, capped at ยฃ49 a month โ however busy you get, you'll never pay more than that in a single month. Right now, while we're still in testing, it's completely free.
If you can no longer make a job you've booked, withdraw from it as soon as you know โ from Your Booked Jobs on your dashboard โ rather than not showing up. This reopens the job for other drivers straight away. Withdrawals are recorded on your account; frequent withdrawals or no-shows may affect your standing on the platform.
Don't use NorthHaul for anything illegal, don't post false or misleading information about yourself or a job, don't harass or threaten another user, don't leave fake reviews or manipulate ratings, and don't try to use the platform to find a match and then take payment or future jobs entirely outside it to avoid our fees once they're switched on. We can remove content or restrict an account for any of these.
Only a customer with a genuinely completed job with that driver can leave a review for them, and reviews can't be edited or deleted once posted โ this is deliberate, so reviews stay trustworthy on both sides. A driver can flag a review as unfair or abusive; we review flagged reviews by hand and decide whether to remove them.
If a driver doesn't show up, or something goes wrong during a job, you can report it through the platform. A no-show report gives the driver a chance to respond before we confirm or dismiss it by hand โ it's not an instant conviction. General problem reports (damage, behaviour, a job not as described, and so on) are also reviewed and resolved manually. We don't currently have a formal appeals process or guaranteed response time for these โ we handle them as fairly and quickly as we can, and we're working on making this more formal as NorthHaul grows.
We check driver documents and run automated pre-checks, but we can't guarantee the conduct, skill, or reliability of any driver, or the accuracy of what any customer posts. The actual job โ safe driving, careful handling, showing up on time, paying as agreed โ is between the customer and the driver. NorthHaul isn't liable for loss, damage, injury or any other issue arising from a job itself; that sits with the party responsible for it, which is exactly why we ask drivers to hold their own insurance. We provide the platform "as is" and can't promise it'll be fault-free or uninterrupted, though we'll obviously try.
We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, including for a confirmed no-show, fraud, or abusive behaviour towards another user. Decisions like this are currently made by us directly rather than through a formal appeals process โ if you think we've got something wrong, contact us and we'll look into it.
As NorthHaul grows โ particularly once fees and payment processing are switched on โ these terms will be updated to match. We'll change the date at the top when we do.
These terms are governed by the law of Scotland, and any dispute will be handled by the Scottish courts.
