NorthHaul ("we", "us") connects people who need something moved with local independent van drivers across North Scotland. This page explains what personal data we collect, why, and what rights you have over it, in line with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. NorthHaul is currently in pre-launch testing, but the same standards apply โ anyone who signs up now is a real person whose data we take seriously, not a test account.
This is a live, growing product, and this policy will change as new features are added. If anything below stops matching what actually happens, tell us at abznorthhaul@gmail.com and we'll fix it.
Your name, email address and (optionally) phone number; the pickup/dropoff locations, postcodes, timing, budget and description of each job you post; any messages you send through the platform; and any review you leave for a driver.
Your name, email address, profile photo and bio (all shown publicly on your driver profile once added); your driving licence number, vehicle registration and insurer name; your uploaded insurance, licence and certification documents; whether you have a trailer; any certifications you hold and their proof documents; your right-to-work basis, share code and date of birth if you provide them, and any right-to-work document you upload; your Goods in Transit insurance details (insurer, coverage level, policy number) and policy document if you add them; a link to your Trustpilot or Approved Trader (SCOTSS/local council scheme) profile if you add one; your bids and booked jobs; any messages you send; and any reviews you receive.
If you use our Contact Us form or chat with our support assistant, we collect whatever you type โ your name, email and message, if you provide them. If you cancel a job or withdraw from a booked one, we record the reason you give and keep a running count of cancellations against your account for our own reference โ this isn't shown publicly or used to automatically restrict your account.
To operate the marketplace โ matching customers with drivers, letting you communicate and arrange jobs, and showing driver profiles so customers know who they're dealing with. To check a driver's documents are genuine before showing a Verified badge. To respond when you contact us. We don't use your data for advertising, and we don't sell it to anyone.
A driver's name, profile photo, bio, verified badge, held certifications, Trustpilot and Approved Trader links (if added) and reviews are visible to any signed-in user, since that's the whole point of a public profile. Your driving licence number, vehicle registration, insurer name, right-to-work information, Goods in Transit insurance details, and your uploaded insurance, licence, certification, right-to-work and GIT insurance documents are private โ only you can see them. The one exception: if a customer has accepted a booking with you, they can view (not download in bulk, just view) the proof documents for certifications and GIT insurance you've declared, so they can check what you're actually qualified and covered for on their job. A cancellation or withdrawal reason is only visible to the other party on that specific job, not publicly, and your cancellation count is visible only to us. Customer contact details (name, email, phone) are kept separate from the public jobs board and are only ever shared with the driver they book.
Messages between a matched customer and driver are end-to-end encrypted โ we store only the encrypted version and can't read the contents ourselves.
When we run an automated check on an uploaded document (to flag whether it looks genuine), the text we read off it is only ever held in memory to run that one check โ we don't store the extracted text anywhere, only the pass/fail result.
We use a small number of service providers to run NorthHaul, who process data on our behalf and aren't permitted to use it for their own purposes:
We don't use any advertising or analytics trackers. Where a provider processes data outside the UK, we expect them to have appropriate safeguards in place as required by UK GDPR.
We keep your data for as long as your account is active, or as long as we reasonably need it to provide the service. We don't yet have a self-serve "delete my account" button โ if you'd like your data deleted, email us or use the Contact Us form and we'll action it by hand.
Under UK GDPR you have the right to access the data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, and ask for a copy in a portable format. To exercise any of these, email abznorthhaul@gmail.com or use the Contact Us page. You can also complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), if you're unhappy with how we've handled your data.
Access to private data (documents, contact details, verification info) is restricted at the database level so that only the account owner โ and, for certification proof, an accepted customer as described above โ can ever retrieve it, not just hidden in the app. Messages are end-to-end encrypted. Passwords are handled entirely by our authentication provider and never seen or stored by us in plain text.
We don't use tracking or advertising cookies. We use your browser's local storage to keep you signed in between visits โ that's it.
NorthHaul is intended for adults arranging or providing van work. It isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
As NorthHaul adds features, this policy will be updated to match. We'll change the date at the top when we do โ check back occasionally if you want to stay current.
Questions about this policy or your data โ email abznorthhaul@gmail.com or use the Contact Us page. A real person reads and replies to every message.
